The Leadership Assessment

January is the time for a leadership assessment ---- take a moment to see how you are doing in your career.

Most leaders will take a minute in January to do a self-assessment. Not unlike September's "back to school" feel, January is time to re-start and make sure your career and time spent at work are where you want them to be. And I can't stress this part enough: is your career where YOU want it to be ---- not where others think it should be.

To get you started on this quick reflection, I offer you ten questions to ask yourself to reset in the new year and get 2025 headed in the right direction. Grab a cup of coffee and a quiet moment and let's look in the mirror.

1) How is my team performing? What issues plague them?

2) Do I like what I'm doing? Am I happy at work? Are my Sunday nights filled with dread or anticipation?

3) Is my boss pleased with my contribution? Am I making a difference? Is my boss a super fan of my work?

4) Do I feel challenged? What is the last thing I learned?

5) Who are the top performers on my team? Am I keeping them challenged?

6) What do I dread doing in my role? What's my plan on dealing with this?

7) Do I have career desires that I'm ignoring? How can I get a plan in place to pursue these even on a part time basis?

8) Is my brain growing? What is my plan to continue my personal growth?

9) What makes me proud in my role? How can I do more of that?

10) Is this the role for me? or should I be preparing for a new challenge? Is my resume in need of an update? Or am I happy where I am?

Most leaders are so swamped, they hit the ground in January preparing for performance reviews, yearend wrap ups and getting a fresh budget that opens up new purchase opportunities ---- don't let the busy-ness of January get in your way of thinking about yourself. Without intention, another year will slip by, and your personal wellness will be sitting on the back burner simmering ----- hoping that you will think enough of yourself to reflect about your personal goals for work.

Let's go January!
