Productivity - A New Trick!

I always have a long list of tasks and projects to complete, but being more organized about getting them done is something I'm focused on. Here's my new trick that I'm using to maximize my productivity:

  • On the days where I have open time on my calendar, I'm slotting in my to do list as meeting planners.

  • For instance today:

7:45 am

Workout

9:00 am

Grocery pickup and put away

10:15 am

News review/email responses/puzzles aka Wordle

11:00 am

Write and publish Blog

Noon

Post to all social channels and comment on other postings

2:00 pm

Writing Time - New Book

4:30 pm

Prep for tomorrow's podcast

5:30 pm

Rework signature box for Outlook via Canva

6:00 pm

Complete tomorrow's calendar with tasks

What do you think? It brings more structure to the day and gives me a road map that accomplishes my to do list at the same time.

Ideally, every slot on your calendar would be booked --- either with meetings or tasks --- a complete road map to the day that aligns with your most pressing items on the to do list.

Admittedly, I'm a to-do list nut. After I complete an unexpected task, I add it to my to do list so that I can check it off and "get credit" for my hard work! It's crazy, but I feel a lot more productive when I see those items getting checked off and I love a tight schedule too.

Part of my struggle is that I get bored easily so I need to mix it up and try new approaches to keep myself entertained. For so many years, it seems like it was just one meeting after another, so it's a different situation now that I have my own business. I still want to be productive ---- but I can work on the projects that I choose and spend less time in meetings that leave me drained and needing a snack!

What tips and tricks do you use to stay entertained and productive? The important thing is that we find a system that works and that we get stuff done with minimal wasted time. Somethings from corporate America hang with you forever ---- I feel better at the end of a day where my to do list gets shorter, and I've used my time wisely. Although no one knows but me, it still matters.........again, still going through the corporate de-tox!
