No one gets excited to give feedback. But we must.

No leader wakes up excited to have a difficult conversation. Even though we know people can’t grow without feedback, it’s still uncomfortable — especially when someone is a top performer.
Here’s a question worth asking yourself as a leader in mortgage servicing:
👉 Does every person on my team clearly know what’s holding them back from their next level?
Maybe it’s industry knowledge.
Maybe it’s executive presence.
Maybe it’s managing emotions under pressure.
Whatever it is — have you actually told them? And have you helped them build a plan to improve?
Here’s something I see often:
🌟 High performers often receive less feedback than others.
Why? Because we’re relieved they’re doing well — and we don’t want to “rock the boat.” But avoiding the conversation doesn’t help them grow… it keeps them stuck.
Strong leaders don’t avoid tough conversations — they make them productive.
Take a moment and do this:
✔️ Write down what each person on your team needs to work on to advance
✔️ Ask yourself if they truly know it
✔️ If they don’t — it’s time for a real conversation
I help leaders in the mortgage servicing space build stronger teams by having the conversations that actually move the needle. If you want to lead more confidently and develop high-performing teams, let’s connect.
