Is your team waiting on you to step up?

Most leaders don’t avoid difficult team issues because they don’t care. They avoid them because their plate is already overflowing with major priorities, deadlines, and constant demands.
But here’s the challenge: the issues we label as “small” rarely stay small for long.
It might look like:
A high performer who is chronically late
A team member who quietly takes credit for others’ work
A well-liked employee whose performance is slipping
A team member who is struggling because another department is creating unnecessary friction
Individually, these may not feel urgent compared to major business initiatives. But over time, unresolved team frustrations slowly erode trust, morale, and accountability. Your team notices what leadership tolerates.
One of the most important leadership skills is learning how to address issues consistently without allowing them to consume all of your time and energy.
Here's an idea for a practical approach: Keep a running list of lingering team concerns and commit to addressing one each week. Small, intentional action creates momentum and prevents minor frustrations from becoming major culture problems.
Leadership is a balancing act:
Delivering results
Supporting people
Maintaining accountability
Protecting team culture
The strongest leaders understand that listening to their team and stepping in when needed is not a distraction from leadership - it is leadership.
So, here’s today’s leadership question:
What team issue have you been putting off that needs your attention before it grows into something bigger?
