Everyday Integrity

Integrity is one of those leadership qualities that can be difficult to define, but your team recognizes it immediately when they see it. It’s rarely built through grand speeches or big public moments. More often, integrity is revealed through the small, everyday actions leaders take when no one is paying attention.

Here are 5 simple but powerful ways leaders demonstrate integrity every day:

1. Give credit where credit is due: Strong leaders don’t need all the recognition. They share the spotlight, acknowledge contributions, and make sure their team feels seen and valued.

2. Treat everyone with respect: Integrity shows up in how you treat people who can do nothing for your career. From the security guard to the executive team, respectful leaders value every person equally.

3. Follow through on your commitments: Nothing erodes trust faster than a leader who says all the right things but fails to deliver. If you commit to something, follow up. Respond. Close the loop. Reliability is an integrity signal.

4. Own your mistakes: Every leader makes mistakes. The real test is what happens next. Leaders with integrity don’t deflect blame or make excuses- they acknowledge the mistake, apologize when needed, and focus on making it right.

5. Protect trust: Be discerning with confidential information. Don’t fuel workplace gossip or tear down peers behind closed doors. Trustworthy leaders create psychological safety because their teams know they can trust both their words and their judgment.

The truth is, most employees can spot integrity issues long before they show up in engagement surveys or turnover reports. Teams watch what leaders do far more closely than what they say.
